Welcome to the Wonderful World of Dr. Seuss! We are so happy you dropped by to celebrate his birthday with us. He was a wonderful highly revered children’s author who many of us learned to read by. The quote below is taken from a Wikipedia entry about his life. I myself (Teresa) am so thrilled to have had the privilege to teach about him during my years as a school teacher.
“In May 1954, Life magazine published a report on illiteracy among school children, which concluded that children were not learning to read because their books were boring. Accordingly, William Ellsworth Spaulding, the director of the education division at Houghton Mifflin who later became its Chairman, compiled a list of 348 words he felt were important for first-graders to recognize and asked Geisel to cut the list to 250 words and write a book using only those words.[33] Spaulding challenged Geisel to "bring back a book children can't put down." [34] Nine months later, Geisel, using 236 of the words given to him, completed The Cat in the Hat. It retained the drawing style, verse rhythms, and all the imaginative power of Geisel's earlier works, but because of its simplified vocabulary, it could be read by beginning readers. The Cat in the Hat and subsequent books written for young children achieved significant international success and they remain very popular today. In 2009 Green Eggs and Ham sold 540,366 copies, The Cat in the Hat sold 452,258 copies, and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish (1960) sold 409,068 copies—outselling the majority of newly published children's books.[35]”

Hello, hello, hello! I feel like I've said that before. :)
I made some really simple cupcake toppers. Since these essentially would get food/icing on them, they'll most likely be thrown out. These are very easy so they can be mass produced for baby showers or birthday parties for twins, or any type of occassion that has a Dr. Seuss theme. I got my inspiration for these from this picture. Truly all you need are two different sized circle shapes, scissors, glue, and something to stick into the cupcake. Now, these aren't going in actual cupcakes for me so it's truly okay that they're on the floor. LOL If you were to do this for food purposes, obviously keep it sanitary. :)
The inspiration behind these came from these pictures:
The shape of the tree top and the thing's hair is what I tried to mimic with the red circle by cutting random slits into the edge and then roughing it up a bit.
Thanks for stopping by!
