SBC Layout Friday

Hello, lovelies! Melissa here with a layout for you all. When I first started crafting, I started by scrap booking. Since then, I have evolved into cards, home decor, altered art, etc. I haven't done a traditional scrap layout in quite some time. So, today I have a single photo shadowbox frame to share with you. You can make these in any size you want as long as that size frame is available. The bigger the frame, the more photos you will be able to add.

Tip: Distress the edges of your photo and papers to add interest. I used the edge of my scissors, and then inked everything in brown ink. It really makes things pop, especially when you don't have a large area to work with.

Here is my final layout prior to being put in the frame. I wanted you to be able to see it without a glass glare.

Then here it is in the shadowbox frame. I'm sorry for the glare, but there was really no way to avoid it.

Recipe:
  • Papers - Recollections Sweetest Thing
  • Cardstock - Close To My Heart Avonlee, Kraft
  • Recollections swirl bling and leather adhesive backed flowers
  • Sentiment stamp is from Close To My Heart, but I am unsure of the name of the set
  • Ink - CTMH chocolate

I think the hardest part of this entire project was deciding what papers to use. From there I just started to distress and layer. The bling were bits and pieces from various swirl designs left over from other projects. I rarely use bling as is, because I feel like you get more mileage out of them if you piece them here and there as needed.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by! If you have any questions, please let me know.

Scrapbook Blessings Club DT - Special Occasion Card

Happy Wednesday, everyone! Melissa here to share a wedding card with you. We all know wedding season is upon us, so I thought it'd be fun to share this with you. Hope you enjoy. As always, if you have any questions, please let me know.

Tip of the Day: Use dry and wet embossing to really make your special occasion cards POP!

Front of card

This is called a criss cross card. Here is a Youtube TUTORIAL you can watch if you'd like to learn how to make it. Once you get the basic concept down, you can adjust it to be whatever size you want to fit your needs. I promise it looks harder than it is.

Here is the front and back of the insert piece. I stamped a sentiment, and embossed the back of the piece to match the front of the card. Again, to give it a special touch.

Front of insert piece
Back of insert piece

I wanted this card to be fairly simple in color scheme. I only used white (you could do off-white/cream also) and shiny gold cardstock.

Recipe:
  • White cardstock
  • Shiny gold cardstock
  • Fiskars border punch
  • Sentiment stamp
  • Gold embossing powder and Versamark or equivalent
  • Cuttlebug and embossing folder
I really hope you enjoy this card! Please feel free to come visit me at my blog. :)

Hope you have a blessed day and thanks for stopping by,
Melissa

Ronald McDonald House Birthday Card Hop

Well, hello there! Hope you are having a fabulous weekend thus far. Today I am taking part in a blog hop that will benefit children and families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Lubbock, Texas. I think many of us are familiar with, or have heard of this organization before, but if not, I am going to leave you with their mission statement.

"We provide families stability and resources so they can help their children become healthy and happy. We are the warm shelter in the storm. Whether their problems involve staying near and supporting a hospitalized child, how to afford staying together in another city while a child is undergoing treatment or even getting basic medical care in a vulnerable or rural community. We're here to help. We do this through the Ronald McDonald House, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and Ronald McDonald Care Mobile. We have been providing these programs for almost 25 years since a group of community leaders came together to open the Ronald McDonald House in Lubbock in 1988. McDonald’s is a partner in care and provides, through local donations,14% of our operating budget. The other 86% comes from gifts from individuals, corporations, organizations and foundations who support our mission."

Today's hop is sponsored by:

You may click HERE for a link to her Etsy store. :)

In addition, there will be TWO, yes, TWO prizes for this hop. There will be one "stash prize" given to one lucky commenter who comments on EVERY blog, and another prize of a stamp set and crinkle ribbon from the Etsy store chosen from people who mail cards. I will explain how you do that, next.

If you choose to participate in this with us, all you need to do is go to THIS BLOG and find the address of where to send your birthday cards for the kids at the Ronald McDonald House. If you send cards to the address listed in that blog post, you will be eligible to win the second prize of a stamp set and ribbon.

Here are some of the cards I will be sending to Sarah.

Below, you will find the entire line up, just in case you get lost along the way.

Please be sure to stop by Michele's blog, next.

"I Love Easter"

He Is Risen! Happy Easter, everyone! I hope you get the chance to enjoy this day with those you love the most.

Here is my Easter themed card today for Our Kreative Karma. :) I had a step by step pictorial for you all, but for some reason my computer is just not cooperating with the pictures, so unfortunately, I will just have to explain what I did without the pictures.

This is a 5.5 by 5.5 inch square card. The card base is green, with a 5.25 by 5.25 inch white layer. On the back of the white piece of cardstock, I divided it into quarters using a ruler and a pencil. Then, I divided those quarters into quarters. I did this so that I could try to get my circles punched as evenly as possibly. You could also do this with a Cricut or Cameo and avoid the measuring all together. Or, if you're REALLY feeling adventurous, you could just "eyeball" it.

After I punched my holes, I layed the layer over the card base and traced where my holes would be, so I knew where to place my embellishments. Add whatever you would like to the little peep holes, then add your top layer, but remember to erase your pencil lines first.. To finish it off, I added some yellow and orange embroidery thread, some faux grass I made just by cutting little slits with scissors, and some green bling.

I also decided to "fussy cut" some Easter eggs at the last minute from a piece of ribbon.

The carrots and duck are stickers I got on sale after Easter at Walmart last year. Chances are you can find something fairly similar this year, as well. Or, as I said before, make your own with a die cutting machine. :)

Hope you like the card, and I hope you have a blessed day!

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Dr. Seuss! We are so happy you dropped by to celebrate his birthday with us. He was a wonderful highly revered children’s author who many of us learned to read by. The quote below is taken from a Wikipedia entry about his life. I myself (Teresa)  am so thrilled to have had the privilege to teach about him during my years as a school teacher.

“In May 1954, Life magazine published a report on illiteracy among school children, which concluded that children were not learning to read because their books were boring. Accordingly, William Ellsworth Spaulding, the director of the education division at Houghton Mifflin who later became its Chairman, compiled a list of 348 words he felt were important for first-graders to recognize and asked Geisel to cut the list to 250 words and write a book using only those words.[33] Spaulding challenged Geisel to "bring back a book children can't put down." [34] Nine months later, Geisel, using 236 of the words given to him, completed The Cat in the Hat. It retained the drawing style, verse rhythms, and all the imaginative power of Geisel's earlier works, but because of its simplified vocabulary, it could be read by beginning readers. The Cat in the Hat and subsequent books written for young children achieved significant international success and they remain very popular today. In 2009 Green Eggs and Ham sold 540,366 copies, The Cat in the Hat sold 452,258 copies, and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish (1960) sold 409,068 copies—outselling the majority of newly published children's books.[35]”

For our hop we have several wonderful projects for you to enjoy. We are starting here at Three Scrappy Gals. If you have come from Pam's blog you are in the right place. If not please go to Three Scrappy Gals and start at the beginning. You don’t want to miss any Seusstical creations.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello, hello, hello! I feel like I've said that before. :)

I made some really simple cupcake toppers.  Since these essentially would get food/icing on them, they'll most likely be thrown out. These are very easy so they can be mass produced for baby showers or birthday parties for twins, or any type of occassion that has a Dr. Seuss theme. I got my inspiration for these from this picture. Truly all you need are two different sized circle shapes, scissors, glue, and something to stick into the cupcake. Now, these aren't going in actual cupcakes for me so it's truly okay that they're on the floor. LOL If you were to do this for food purposes, obviously keep it sanitary. :)

The inspiration behind these came from these pictures:

The shape of the tree top and the thing's hair is what I tried to mimic with the red circle by cutting random slits into the edge and then roughing it up a bit.

Thanks for stopping by!
